Krabi's accommodation is spread between a practical town, a busy mainland resort, a boat-access peninsula and a quiet luxury coast. Those areas are not interchangeable. A beautiful hotel can still be the wrong choice if every meal, boat departure or mainland journey requires an extra transfer.
For most first-time visitors, Ao Nang offers the easiest balance. Railay is worth the boat logistics when the setting is the priority, while Tubkaak and Klong Muang make more sense for travellers who plan to spend substantial time at their resort. Krabi Town is useful for local life and transport rather than a conventional beach holiday.

Recommendation
Ao Nang is Krabi's main visitor base and the easiest place to arrange island trips, Railay boats and inland excursions. The centre is busy and commercial, while the streets towards Nopparat Thara and the limestone hills become calmer. It works particularly well when convenience matters more than having the best beach directly outside the hotel.
Railay sits on a peninsula cut off from Krabi's road network by limestone cliffs, so guests arrive by boat. Railay West has the main swimming beach and sunset views, Railay East handles many arrivals, and a walking path continues to Phra Nang Beach. The compact setting is easy to explore on foot once you arrive.
Klong Muang and Tubkaak lie northwest of Ao Nang along a quieter section of coast. Hotels are more spread out, evenings are calm and the strongest properties are designed as destinations rather than bases for nightlife. Tubkaak is the more secluded end of the area, with views across the small islands of Phang Nga Bay.
Krabi Town is the provincial centre, set inland from the main resort beaches. It offers everyday restaurants, riverside walks and weekend market activity without Ao Nang's resort-strip atmosphere. The town can work for a short stay, an early airport departure or onward travel, but most beach-focused visitors will be happier on the coast.
Climate & Seasons
November to April generally offers the driest conditions and the calmest period for beach and boat plans, with the busiest demand around Christmas and New Year. May to October is wetter and seas can be rougher, but hotels are often better value and rain does not necessarily last all day. Leave flexibility around boat trips during unsettled weather.
Getting Around
Road transfers connect Krabi Airport, Krabi Town, Ao Nang, Klong Muang and Tubkaak. Railay has no road connection, so the final part of the journey is by boat. Ao Nang is the easiest base for travellers who want frequent tours and flexible dining, while a car or arranged transfer is more useful around Klong Muang and Tubkaak. Confirm the arrival pier and luggage arrangements with a Railay hotel before travelling.
